Computer Donation: Acceptable Charitable Donation

The concepts of computer donation may be something new to you, but there are non-profit organizations established as early as 1997 that consider old computers as an acceptable donation from the public. By acting as a middle man, these organizations collect used and old computers for delivery to a number of non-profit organizations and other similar charity foundations.

On the other hand, owners of old computers who find it hard to discard such a useful but obsolete item will feel better off thinking that they will be donating it to the needy. A computer donation program will also be a vehicle for effective disposal of old and obsolete computer monitors, CPUs and accessories keeping the environment clean and free from non-biodegradable materials.

Non-profit organizations will remodel or recycle the old but still functional computers, which they will use for educating the poor. A number of computer manufacturers go hand-in-hand with charitable foundations in recycling old computers. The manufacturers are Dell, Epson, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Lexmark, and MPC Computers. Each of these manufacturers has their own links for recycling computers in websites of computer donation programs.

To facilitate the donation process, however, there is a list of technical information required from the owners of each donated computer. The following information must be provided by the donating owner: the brand name and model number, the year when the computer was bought, the available RAM in Megabytes, the hard drive size, the processor speed, usually in Megahertz, and what licensed software have been installed in the computer and if the original CDs can also be provided with it. With these provided info, recycling old computers from a computer donation program will be easy and faster.

To make it easier to donate, most non-profit foundations have their own websites wherein the list of computer manufacturers are listed, technical specifications are available and the list of charitable foundations, to which the computers will be awarded, are indicated. The computer donation programs are so successful that non-profit organizations even provide freebies and promo items to owners who donate their computers. This practice tends to attract people to donate with gusto!
