Defined Tag:

One name echoes providing years of social service; Red Cross. Red Cross has served during the First and Second World War and it has since established an international presence and reputation as providing aid to the military, Prisoners of War (or PoW) and the civilians by soliciting Red Cross donation and volunteer services.

Back then, they even built small stop-overs called Canteens for the troops. Red Cross volunteers hand-crafted garments, donated blood and money, provided comfort and survival kits, and made surgical dressings. Back at home, they maintained their support by participating in communications between the military personnel and their families, and they helped the service members with their pensions and benefits from the government.

The present Red Cross also looked into other type of community service. It provided its support to almost every types of charitable works and continued to solicit donations from eager individuals. Everyone is welcome to donate what they can to help the world's poor and Red Cross donation is available worldwide with more than 100 major branches in different countries.

Red Cross has devised ways to facilitate faster response and acceptance of donations using interactive websites. The American Red Cross, for instance, has a website, www.redcross.org. The homepage shows a number of Donate options, wherein interested donors can donate online, by phone, by mail, through wire transfer, through planned giving, via Instant Messaging, or through the use of Rewards Programs. Prospective donors can donate their extra cash, in-kind products or items, stocks and funds and real estate properties.

The American Red Cross also has a number of charitable gift programs that gives the donor a freebie or gift in return for his donation. There are programs wherein, investments can be turned into charitable donations from which the donor can help the needy, while at the same time, also earn money.

These donations will be pooled and will be provided to various charity programs. In times of natural disasters, these donations will be able to provide food, clothing, shelter and temporary relief to the victims. Usually, the natural disasters that are covered by Red Cross donations are earthquake, hurricanes and tornados.
